A negotiation process by third party in between divorcing spouses known as divorce mediation. It is a help offered by neutral third party i.e. mediator. The neutral mediator helps to the couples to determine the issues like child related, property division, support etc. The mediator is not judge and not decision making authority but negotiate with the divorcing spouses so that they can take decision. The mediator is not arbitrator whereas arbitrator decides the case after hearing the facts. Normally the mediations involve hourly fee or per session fee. The cost of the mediation may vary as the mediators may also offer the mediation at free of cost or at reduced cost. Sometime court orders mediation part of divorce proceeding. At that time, the court may fix the costs of mediation or without cost. The mediator has to submit the report to the court in case of court ordered mediation, whereas the private mediation is confidential. The completion of mediation may take even in one day but depends upon the seriousness of issue. But most divorcing couples meet several sessions; hence the mediation may end over a period of weeks or months.
